Germany is hosting a WWE pay-per-view for the first time when the inaugural Bash in Berlin event kicks off on Saturday. World Heavyweight Champion Gunther returns to his longtime home on a card that also features WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.
Gunther cut his teeth in German independent seasons in the years before his WWE run. Gunther returned to Berlin — a seven-hour drive from his birthplace of Vienna, Austria — to defend his newly acquired world heavyweight championship. Gunther will face fellow King of the Ring finalist Randy Orton, who is looking to begin his 15th world title reign.
Also, the rivalry between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre will reach a new level of intensity when the pair meet in a strap match. The two feuded for most of the year with Punk costing McIntyre multiple title opportunities when McIntyre inflicted a real injury on Punk that put him on the shelf for months. Now, things continue in what is expected to be a brutal affair.

World Heavyweight Championship — Gunther (c) vs. Randy Orton: Gunther defeated Orton in May’s King of the Ring finals to win the world title at SummerSlam. Gunther made the most of his opportunities but a small dark cloud hung over his young title reign. Orton’s shoulder was off the mat when Gunther pinned him to become King of the Ring. Orton challenged Gunther to a World Title match that would reinforce Gunther’s victory against Orton or invalidate “The Viper’s” franchise.
Undisputed WWE Championship — Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Kevin Owens: Rhodes offered Owens a title shot to thank him for supporting Owen against The Bloodline. Owens declined, arguing that his recent win-loss record did not justify the opportunity. Rhodes made a request to SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis, who booked the match for Berlin.
Damian Priest & Rhea Ripley vs. Dominik Mysterio & Liv Morgan (Mixed Tag Team Match): Priest and Ripley have been on a warpath since both were violently bounced from Doomsday. Priest’s biggest issues are with Finn Balor, but he’s more than happy to get his hands on Mysterio. After Mysterio left Ripley for Morgan, Ripley’s problems with the Women’s World Champion reached a new level. CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre (Strap Match): McIntyre defeated Punk in their long-awaited match at SummerSlam after Punk distracted guest referee Seth Rollins and McIntyre stole the bracelet.
