Police kill man on 95 Piscataqua River Bridgeafter woman child killed: AG’s Office says
The man was wanted in New Hampshire for murdering a woman. The bridge was still closed on Thursday morning.
The Piscataqua River Bridge on Interstate 95 between Maine and New Hampshire was closed in both directions Thursday morning due to an active police scene.
The New Hampshire attorney general’s office confirmed at 7 a.m. that police shot and killed a man on the bridge. The man was wanted for allegedly killing a woman at a home in Troy, New Hampshire. Investigators say an 8-year-old child was also shot to death inside the man’s vehicle.
No names were being released.
The Maine Attorney General’s Office is now investigating the officer-involved shooting.
Motorists are expected to see heavy traffic in the area between New Hampshire Line and Exit 7.
York Police are encouraging drivers to use Route 1 to get into New Hampshire this morning. However, by 6:30 a.m., traffic south of the ramp to Exit 2 on the Turnpike was backed up and delayed on Route 1 in Kittery as drivers tried to use other bridges between Maine and New Hampshire. are Traffic was slow on both other bridges until 7 a.m. Traffic was slow to the Portsmouth traffic circle in New Hampshire and the circle itself was backed up.
Just before 2:50 a.m. Thursday morning, an alert went out to Maine’s Total Coverage newsroom.
WMTW’s sister station WMUR confirmed with the New Hampshire State Police that it was one.
Drivers should avoid the area if possible. For hours, the Main Turnpike Authority said traffic was being backed up at Exit 2. Traffic after exit 2 is being diverted to get off the turnpike. Just after 7 a.m., the Turnpike Authority announced that the southbound onramp at Exit 7 in York was also closed.
